An 18th Century Independence Day Celebration
Saturday, July 5
10am – 4pm
Celebrate the beginning of our nation’s independence! We will be hosting a gala that will include the arrival, by courier, of the Declaration of Independence, raising of the Continental Colors, refreshments, and contests!
A fine opportunity to visit with the Company of Overmountain Men and become a part of the excitement of 1776! The celebration will take place on Saturday; the garrison will continue until Sunday at 3 pm.
18th Century Knitting Instructor: Melanie Koenig

Cost: $25.00 Limit: 14
Learn about knitting in the 18th century. Try some typical patterns. Basic knitting skills are needed for this class (cast on, knit, purl). The cost of the class includes yarn. Bring US #6 or #7 needles.

Don’t miss Tennessee’s longest running outdoor drama, depicting the 18th Century settlement of Northeast Tennessee. Presented each year by local performers in the shadow of Fort Watauga. The drama tells the story of the major events surrounding the Watauga Settlement on the grounds where they actually happened. Seating is available in the Fort Watauga Amphitheater and performances begin evenings at 7:30 pm. Sponsored by Friends of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area.
Admissions: Adults $10, Seniors (62 +) $9, Students $8. Children 5 and under are free.

Use wet-on-wet techniques to learn oil on canvas from a certified Bob Ross instructor.
Monday, July 14 9am – 1pm
Cost: $25.00 per class or $80.00 for four
Learn to follow a published pattern of your choice and produce an attractive garment in the process. Learn all sorts of tips and tricks to make your knitting easier and better. Materials are available from the instructor for $8 to $12.

Primitive Pottery I: Handbuilding

This two-part class begins with learning primitive techniques to create functional pottery (these pieces will be pit-fired in Part II of the class on August 9).
